OMRON has introduced the VHV5 Inline Verifier – a high-speed barcode verification system that checks 1D, 2D, and Direct Part Mark (DPM) codes directly on the production line. The VHV5 performs real-time verification of Code 128, Data Matrix, QR codes, and DPM marks at speeds of up to 1,000 codes per minute. This allows manufacturers to ensure that every code applied during marking or printing is readable, compliant, and traceable. In manufacturing and packaging environments, barcode quality directly impacts traceability, compliance, and reliable scanning during internal handling, final assembly, distribution, and at the point of use. Inline verification enables manufacturers to assess code quality at the exact moment it is created, allowing for the immediate detection and resolution of printing or marking issues. The VHV5 complies with the requirements of ISO/IEC 15416 for the print quality of 1D barcodes, ISO/IEC 15415 for the evaluation of 2D symbols, and ISO/IEC TR 29158 (AIM DPM) for codes applied directly to parts using laser, dot peen, or inkjet processes. By applying these standards directly on the production line, the system delivers consistent and repeatable evaluation results for labels, packaging, and permanently marked components used in the automotive, electronics, pharmaceutical, medical device, and general manufacturing industries. This system utilizes tilted coaxial lighting, which enables improved verification accuracy on reflective, curved, and low-contrast surfaces by reducing glare and enhancing edge sharpness. This optical approach is particularly effective for DPM codes on metal parts, glossy labels, and curved plastic packaging.
