Panel mount jacks with fibre optic and M12 connections
Georg Schlegel GmbH & Co. KG expands its panel mount jack programme with additional components for USB-C, fibre optic and M12 connections. The prevalence of USB-C device is increasing steadily also in the industrial sector. Thus Schlegel completed its portfolio by offering also a USB-C panel mount jack. On the front side the jack is designed as USB-C jack. On the rear there is a cable of 60 cm length with a USB-A connector. So the USB-C devices can be connected to conventional USB-A connectors. The USB-C panel mount jack supports the specification USB 2.0. According to bitkom, more than half of all industrial companies already use a fibre optic connection. To also cover this field, Schlegel has developed a first panel mount jack for the LC connection type. The panel mount jack RRJ_LWL_LC_OM2 is designed for LC/LC coupling and complies with the standards IEC 61754-20 and EN 50377-7. Up to 500 mating cycles and the use within a temperature range from -40°C to 75°C are possible. The mounting depth is only 28.5 mm. Additional connection and fibre types are planned and can be requested directly from Schlegel. Schlegel also further expands its product range in the area of M12 connection technology with the new M12 panel mount jack. The connections are A-coded and are designed as a 4-pole panel mount jack RRJ_M124A_100CM or a 5-pole panel mount jack RRJ_M125A_100CM on the front side. On the rear the connection is made via an open cable end. The M12 panel mount jack can be operated within a temperature range from -25°C to 80°C (from -5°C to 80°C for flexible operation), a voltage of max. 250 V (4 poles) / 125 V (5 poles) AC/DC and a current of max. 4 A per contact. The mounting depth is 43.9 mm. With the M12 panel mount jack, too, additional codings and pole assignments are planned or can be requested. All three panel mount jacks can be purchased for 22.3 mm mounting holes and in silver or black or with stainless steel front bezel.

Proboxx
Flexible, functional und elegant – these are the characteristics featuring the new enclosure series proboxx of Georg Schlegel GmbH & Co. KG. With the new product line the portfolio of enclosures of the expert for pushbuttons and switches is complemented by a particularly classy and also practical variant. The proboxx is convincing by its various application fields. Its conception allows an easy integration into existing structures and takes current technical standards into consideration. The proboxx can be used for conventional wiring (M12 connection, M16 cable gland) as well as for modern fieldbus, communication or radio systems. Schlegel currently offers the enclosure with IO-Link, AS-Interface and sWave radio interface. The enclosure made of polyamide is characterised by its high strength. With the newly invented mounting mechanism it can be mounted on both, full-surface substructures and profile rails. The particular advantage is: The enclosure does not have to be opened and can be exchanged quickly in case of service or failure. An asymmetrical placement of the proboxx is always possible thanks to the newly developed mounting mechanism. The application of the proboxx on interlocks is also possible without any problems. Particular attention was devoted to the design of the proboxx. Thus, the screw fitting of the enclosure has been put on the bottom intentionally so as to not disturb its beautiful appearance of the enclosure by exposed screw heads. This aesthetic detail corresponds with the added value of safety: The enclosure can not be opened without dismounting it. The bicolored optics also add to the high-quality appearance which can even be modified individually for this enclosure series. The proboxx is designed for up to four pushbuttons and switches and can be purchased as an empty enclosure as well as a pre-equipped variant. Using a special online configurator, the customer can compile its enclosure or can choose one of the predefined standard enclosures.

Emergency-stops with pull release FRPVK
Georg Schlegel GmbH & Co. KG expands its emergency-stop program for the SHORTRON series with pull to release variants. The new variants are available without contact blocks for base-plate mounting and with contact blocks for faston terminals or PCB-mounted terminals. The versions with faston terminals are available with 1 NC, 2 NC, 2 NC + 1 NO and as illuminated type with 2 NC contacts. For the emergency-stops for PCB-mounting there are 2 NC and 2 NC + 1 NO contacts available. The mechanical life of the emergency-stops is approximately 30.000 switching cycles with a maximum pulling force of 160 N. Their protection class is IP65/IP67 and the maximum operation temperature is -25° C - 70° C. The NC contacts are with positive opening according to EN60947-5-1. The emergency-stops are designed for a mounting diameter of 22.3 mm and have a mounting depth of 9.2 mm to 18.1 mm, depending on their version.

Shortron connect - small & robust
Quick and simple: Beside the costs, time also plays an important role in the planning of projects. SHORTRON connect with direct M12 connection enables a simple, fast and, above all, safe installation of the pushbuttons and switches, because the M12 connection technology is designed in such a way that a reverse or incorrect polarity of the connections is not possible - based on the plug & work principle: plug in and start. In addition, no separate contact element is being needed as it already is integrated in the switch. Completely protected: For the use of SHORTRON connect, an expensive and time-consuming installation of an enclosure is no longer necessary as the IP65 / IP67 protection degree provides a reliable protection against water and dust, in the front as well as on the rear. This principle not only saves costs but also space, especially if the ergonomic SHORTRON connect mounting brackets are being used. They are designed for a simple and quick assembly on 40 mm profiles. By means of the 90° mounting bracket for vertical mounting, as well as the 135° mounting bracket for horizontal mounting, the pushbuttons and switches can be placed and organised as per customer's requirement. Also existing workstations can be expanded in the simplest way. For this purpose mounting brackets in three different versions with 1, 2 or 3 holes are available. Small with design: With a mounting depth of only 33.7 mm (emergency stop 26.7 mm), SHORTRON connect also has the typical compact design of the product family and is therefore ideally suitable for the use in machines, panels and operating units that are increasingly becoming smaller. It has also been taken care to maintain the familiar flat and attractive design of the series, so in addition to the silver-coloured and black front rings also the exclusive version with stainless steel front ring is available.

Rotary knobs with integrated potentiometer
As of now, Georg Schlegel GmbH & Co. KG offers rotary knobs with integrated potentiometers for its SHORTRON and OKTRON-JUWEL series. Apart from these instantly usable rotary knobs, the variants to use your own potentiometer will still be avaliable. These are meant for customers who need resistance values other than the avaliable potentiometers with 1kΩ, 5kΩ, 10kΩ and 50 kΩ. The rotary switches for the SHORTRON series (SR1K, SR5K, SR10K, SR50K) will be available in the colours silver and black as well as with stainless steel front bezel. The rotary switches for the OKTRON-JUWEL series (OKJR1K, OKJR5K, OKJR10K, OKJR50K) are available in black. The rotary switches are designed for temperature ranges from -20°C to 70°C, the degree of protection is IP66/IP69K. The mechanical life is up to 100.000 rotation cycles with a rotation angle of 260°. On the screw connection a nominal voltage of max. 160 volts with a nominal capacity of max. 0.1 watts can be applied. The mounting depth for both variants is 31 mm, the panel cutout for SHORTRON is 22.3 mm, for OKTRON-JUWEL 23.1 x 23.1mm.

Emergency-Stop Devices
Georg Schlegel GmbH & Co. KG is offering a comprehensive range of emergency-stop devices allowing to fulfil the requirements of typical applications of different branches - ranging from the machine building industry, plant engineering up to the lift, vehicle, shipbuilding and crane building industry. Customer can choose from a variety of traditional versions. The illuminated variants offer a plus in safety compared to standard emergency-stops, as they signal the active/inactive status of the emergency-stop by means of a clear colouring. Also here, Schlegel offers different products and has developed an emergency-stop with diagnostic unit which constantly monitors the status of the illumination. Self-monitoring emergency-stop devices The production of products and goods is mostly done by complex and extensive production facilities. Nowadays, those facilities are no longer operated as complete systems, they are divided in individual areas. This sectioning has the advantage that the facilities can be adapted to production changes much quicker and that they are more failure-proof in whole. The modular structure offers also other advantages. Among others individual parts can be safeguarded by a separate emergency-stop device. In case of a failure in the production or in case of danger for a person, the relating part of the installation is put into a safe state by operating its individual emergency-stop, the rest of the system keeps on running. When using emergency-stop devices it always has to be considered that the emergency-stop function is a complementary protective measure and may not be used as substitute for other protective measures or safety functions!

WiFi adapter integrates to the control unit series
The company Georg Schlegel GmbH & Co. KG expanded its control unit portfolio by two components for the radio sector. For the wireless local area network acc. to the standard IEEE 802.11 Schlegel is offering the adapter RRJ_WLU_01 with USB connector. It is designed for the specification IEEE 802.11n and thus it theoretically allows transmisson rates of up to 600 MBits/s in the frequency range of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The standard IEEE 802.11n is downward compatible to IEEE 802.11g and IEEE 802.11b, thus the adapter can also be used in networks with those specifications. 64/128-bit WEP, WPA and WPA2 encoding are supported. The compact WiFi adapter has a mounting depth of only 41 mm and a USB 2.0 cable of 150 cm length for the connection to a Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10, Mac OS X or Linux system. For a considerably lower mounting depth of 27 mm Schlegel has developed the WiFi antenna RRJ_WLA_01. Same as all WiFi products, it is conform to IEEE 802.11 (a/b/g/n/ac) and acc. to IEC 60169-15 it can be connected via a SMA end launch jack. Both WiFi products are IP65 and are designed for a panel cut-out of Ø 22.3 mm and they fit the Rontron-R-Juwel range with its several design awards.

Cost-effective, installer friendly and flexible control devices: modular operating concept for bus systems
The great advantage of the modular operating concept is the connection of several expansion modules via a basic module and the associated saving of costs. Only the basic module includes the bus-specific bus connection and the bus node which communicates with the corresponding bus system. Thus, the basic module is the most complex module of the total package. The expansion modules are connected via a cable connection to the basic module, which then communicates with all connected command points. The usual additional cabling of the command points is no longer necessary, thus, saving installation time and reducing wiring outlay and space requirement. Moreover, customers who opt for the modular control concept, enjoy high long-term flexibility. If their requirements change, for example if more actuators are required, the modular operating concept can be expanded at any time until the maximum number of expansion modules is reached. Also, switching to a different bus system can be implemented quickly. For this purpose, only the basic module needs to be replaced by one that is compatible with the new bus system, no further installation work must be done. Thanks to its modular and standardised design, the operating concept is suitable for all applications and allows cost-optimised solutions even at quantities of only 10 to 20 units – a fact that is of particular interest for the special machinery construction with small lot sizes.

stainless steel enclosure specially designed for the mounting to profile rails
„Our new stainless steel profile enclosure combines high demands as to design, flexibility and functionality", says Wolfgang Zoll, sales manager of Georg Schlegel GmbH & Co. KG. The enclosure is based on a robust square profile made of 2VA stainless steel with a wall thickness of 2 mm and has been designed in a way that no screws are visible on the enclosure front side. The small-sized construction in a width of 40 mm exactly fits to each standard profile rail so that there is no overlapping and both - the enclosure and the profile rail - become a perfect unit. Besides, the stainless steel enclosure blends in harmoniously into different applications thanks to its reduced space saving height of only 40 mm. Also, relating to the mounting onto the profile rail the new solution scores: It just has to be put on and is being fixed by slot nuts with self-locking screws. In case a direct mounting to the wall is required, Schlegel also offers suitable solutions. For the equipment of the enclosure with 1 - 6 actuators customers can choose from the whole Shortron control unit range. The assembly is done by Schlegel in-house, upon delivery the stainless steel enclosure just has to be mounted to the profile rail. For the optimum adaption to individual requirements Schlegel is offering two connecting systems: For enclosures with 1 - 3 actuators via M12 connector and for those ones with 4 - 6 actuators with cable gland. The access to the enclosure is given via the bottom of the housing. Customised versions On request, Schlegel offers the new enclosure concept with customised equipment. Also in this case customer can choose from the whole Shortron control unit range. Beside the standard of up to 6 actuators it is also possible to get a versíon with more than 6 actuators, also in customised designs - up to a maximum length of 100 cm is possible. As an alternative, an additional enclosure concept with an extremely small size of 20 mm is planned.
contact block range FRTF/FRTP
The contact block range FRTF/FRTP of Georg Schlegel GmbH & Co. KG is very compact and equipped with Faston connections (FRTF) or with PCB connections (FRTP). The contact blocks are mainly designed for lower capacities. RGB pilot light
It is made in the RONTRON-R-JUWEL design and includes a RGB-SMD LED. Besides the option to choose between 7 colours, the illumination uniformity and the depth of colour have become even more homogeneous and intense. The standard colours are white, red, green, blue, yellow, magenta and cyan, but it is possible to access the whole RGB colour range, using a PWM signal (pulse width modulation). The pilot light is easily connected via the SMD flat clamp, just inserting the cable. The clamp ensures the connection and keeps the cable in place. A safety diode protects the LED against damage in case of improper connection of the cable. The new RGB pilot light is made for 22.3 mm mounting holes and fulfils IP65, being dust and waterproof. It is designed for an operating voltage of 24V and a max. amperage of 50mA, having an operating temperature range of -30°C to 70°C.

Ready for M12 - ingeniously simple! new contact block series
The new contact block series FRT connect brings pushbuttons and switches to the M12 world Most pushbuttons and switches are still equipped with screw, Faston or clamping connection. This kind of wiring is associated with an increased effort and is also prone to errors. Those problems are solved by changing to the M12 connection. The disadvantage: Up to now, this change to M12 mostly requires the exchange of the complete series. The new contact block series FRT connect of GEORG SCHLEGEL GmbH & Co. KG with its M12 connection provides remedy. The new FRT connect contact blocks make existing systems "ready for M12". This contact block series allows to equip pushbuttons and switches of various ranges with a M12 connector. Quick and simple. Suitable for many ranges All SCHLEGEL pushbuttons and switches with 16 mm housing neck and 3 mm travel can be combined with the FRT connect contact blocks to make them M12 compatible. If NC or NO contact, or with illumination option – the diversity of possible contact equipments covers all options. There are connectors with 4 poles with SCHLEGEL pin assignment or with 5 poles with AIDA pin assignment to choose from. A long life time and a high switching capacity are completing the list of advantages of the series FRT connect. More individuality is hardly possible.

M12 – A lot of connections are offered by this technology
The M12 connector has been introduced in 1985, so almost 40 years ago. During the first decades this technology was mainly used in the automotive industry, but thanks to the digitisation and industry 4.0 the M12 connector experienced an incredible boom which still lasts. Bus systems, automation, robotics and IIoT create a basis for further, numerous components and devices that are wired with a M12 connector. An increase in enquiries and also further development of the M12 technology can be expected for the next years. This is currently evident by improvements, as for example the push pull mechanics where there is a "click" when connecting the plug. For some fields, the vast spread is still exclusive in Europe, but the M12 connector has been established globally in general. Which factors accelerated the development? The catalyst for this trend was the request for a reliable, error-free and easy to install connector which preferably is resistant against humidity and dust. The pros become also evident during maintenance work or other situations when the connection has to be unplugged. The reconnection for conventional wiring is more time-intensive and also prone to mistakes. Thanks to the M12 connector this is done easy and fast, furthermore it is almost impossible to wrongly plug the M12 connection. The requirement for an internationally standardised system was another reason for the development and spread of the M12 connector as globally compatible systems can be realised by it. What specific benefits do you see? The benefits of the M12 connector are obvious: • standardised system • very robust and reliable • numerous applications possible • simple and almost error-free installation • considerably reduced cabling effort • easy diagnosis of the system

New MK contact block
The Company GEORG SCHLEGEL received the renowned Focus Award in silver from the Design Center Baden-Württemberg for the new MK contact block. "We are very happy about this award. The award further proves that we at SCHLEGEL always think about good design, even for product developments that are not so conspicuous," says Christoph Schlegel. The award is also valuable because the Design Center Baden-Württemberg is an independent institution and has no commercial intentions. The design quality is an important characteristic for a design award – but it is certainly not the only one. The independent jurors also pay attention to the functionality, the level of innovation, ergonomics and utility. The MK also convinces in these categories: lower, smaller, more modular – these are the characteristics of the MK. With the MK we succeeded in developing an extremely compact and powerful contact block, having a straight-lined aesthetics. Thanks to the well thought-out structure, the MK has a mounting depth of only 17.6 mm. The distinct colourings of the NO, NC and LED module facilitate the handling. The contact blocks can be combined and mounted in the module holder as required. In the SCHLEGEL world, the MK is versatile and fits all SCHLEGEL pushbuttons and switches of all the ranges with a 22 mm housing neck.

Charging jack Kombitast-R-Juwel
Mobile devices are part of our everyday life and have to be available everytime, everywhere. It is all the more important to recharge the battery in time and fast. The new USB-A charging jack from Schlegel has been designed to do exactly that. The jack has 2 USB-A ports, each providing a charging current of 2.4 A at an output voltage of 5 V. This way, two devices can be charged at the same time at "lightning speed". But not only the charging capacity is convincing, the scope of functions for safe operations does as well. The jack comes with a current limitation of the output current of each USB port, including also a protection against short-circuit, undervoltage and overvoltage. Overload protection The charging jack can be operated within a temperature range of -40 °C to 70 °C. When the environmental temparature rises, a temperature sensor ensures that the electronics do not heat up too much. It regulates the charging current correspondingly or even switches off the charging process automatically when critical temperatures are being reached. Only after the temperature returned to the uncritical state the charging process will be continued. Additional ventilation slits ensure a continuous cooling, especially when the circulation of air is restricted due to the mounting situation. The robust USB-A charging jack has a mechanical lifetime of min. 5000 plugging cycles and is constructed for a panel cut-out of 30.5 mm. The operating voltage ranges from 15 V to 30 V DC. The electrical connection is provided with a spring-load terminal for cable cross-sections from 0.2 to 2.5 mm². The new SCHLEGEL charging jack is also suitable for railway applications as all relevant parts of it comply with the standards EN 50155, EN 61373:2011 class 1B, EN 60077-1, EN 45545-2, EN 60068-2, EN-50121-3-2, IEC 61000-6-3/4, EBA EMV06. SCHLEGEL currently offers 2 versions of the charging jack: KRJSW_2USB_A_5V with black front bezel and KRJM_2USB_A_5V with silver-coloured front bezel.

gateways and extension modules expand the modular bus system range
For our modular bus system (MBS), which connects pushbuttons and switches to industrial communication systems, we are now offering new gateways and extension modules. Those were equipped with additional components such as an RFID interface, which help to manage access to machines or operating units. Industrial networks more often play an important role in industrialised work processes. In particular, the industrial Ethernet offers significant advantages: The management of big data packages, the fast and easy processing of information and the adaptation to special conditions of operation in the industrial sector make processes more transparent, safe and efficient. The gateways for Profinet (PN_GW_HS_01), Ethernet/IP (EN_GW_HS_01), EtherCAT (EC_GW_HS_01) or Powerlink (PL_GW_HS_01) each have an interface to our modular bus system (MBS). The MBS enables an easy connection of pushbuttons and switches to the network and the control. Other units like potentiometers or RFID readers can be operated through the integrated A/D converter resp. the integrated RFID control unit.

Integrated display in a pushbutton
The Flexitast pushbutton is a first of its kind pushbutton and will be presented at the SPS in Nuremberg. This pushbutton is an innovative pushbutton with integrated display that was designed for dynamic control and signaling requirements. This solution combines an actual pushbutton with a 72 x 72 pixel display enabling a flexible depiction of symbols and texts that can be updated in real time. The centerpiece of the Flexitast is a purpose-made 72 x 72 pixels ZBD display. Exclusively produced for SCHLEGEL, the display offers the best resolution and keeps the display data visible even without power supply. The dimensions of the display are 26.5 x 26.5 mm to ensure that the symbol/text can be seen from afar. The RGB illumination makes it possible to adapt the display output to various statuses or design requirements. That way, if needed, symbols and texts can be highlighted by background colour which is ideal for complex control systems when differing states have to be visually noticeable. Due to its robust design and the protecting glass panel, the Flexitast is durable and reliable even in demanding conditions. Burn-in of the display as known in other technologies cannot occur. Flexitast can be used as a single button, but its full potential shows when used as a system, for which up to 128 Flexitast buttons can be combined. This enables high scalability for complex control requirements and is especially useful for bigger control systems. The Flexitast is also suitable for rough working conditions, thanks to its robust design. It has a degree of protection of IP65 and a lifetime of 1 million switching cycles. The operating temperature ranges from -10 °C to +50 °C. The operating travel of the Flexitast is 3 mm and the contact block is tactile, with 2 NO contacts. It is operated with an operating voltage of 24 V.

Effective protection of open interfaces
Unprotected interfaces on machines, like USB ports and Ethernet interfaces, may become an open gate for malware or data manipulation. In order to avoid this, 2BSecure was developed. With this system, the interfaces will be deactivated by default, limiting the acces to authorised personnel. A manual activation via key switch or RFID ensures that only authorised persons can activate the interface and thus enabling data transmission. The limitation to authorised personnel furthermore not only protects the machine control, but also sensible data within the whole network. 2BSecure was developed as a compact black box solution that is being installed between the interface and the end device. The black box is usually well protected within the machine, so there are no particular technical requirements for degree of protection and temperature. The connection is provided via a connection block with a rated voltage of 24 V, as is typical for the usual end systems. The interfaces fulfil the normal requirements for USB-A, USB-C and Ethernet. The dimensions of the black box are very compact with 50 x 60 x 17 mm. 2BSecure can be implemented without great effort in exsting machine and IT infrastructures. The control of the black box is conducted through the end device which guarantees a seamless and user-friendly implementation. 2BSecure can also be adjusted to different requirements and applications areas, be it the manufacturing industry, energy sector or critical infrastructure. High legal protection requirements With the control of open interfaces, 2BSecure contributes to comply with the strict requirements of the new EU machine directive 2027 as well as the NIS ("Network and Information Security") 2.0 directive of the EU. Those obligate companies that work in manufacturing, the energy or transportation sector to prove that their machines and networks are protected against unauthorised access.
